Tracking the Cat
Photograph by Christian Ziegler

Ricardo Moreno, a Panamanian university student assisting with the ocelot study, tracks a radio-collared ocelot the old-fashioned way—by toting a radio receiver through the jungle, hoping to pick up a signal. Although ARTS automatically monitors the cats, fieldwork remains a vital part of the study. In this case, Moreno seeks data about den locations, hunting behaviors, and animal interactions that might not be revealed by ARTS.
