Hands tightly clasped, children and adults evacuating the Louisiana Superdome wade through Katrina's floodwaters toward buses lined up to carry them out of New Orleans. In the storm's chaotic aftermath, thousands of children became separated from parents, grandparents, and other caregivers. It was mid-October before the Center for Missing and Exploited Children could report that all of the children who were alone in post-Katrina shelters had been reunited with their families.
