Little Owl Fluffballs Photograph by Norbert Rosing
Hatched two weeks earlier in June, three snowy owl chicks snuggle together in their nest on a small island in a marsh. "This was one of six snowy owl nests in the area," says photographer Rosing. "This one was littered with the remains of lemmings—they were abundant." Wapusk offers owls and other predators plenty of food such as voles, mice, arctic hares, and ptarmigan. Owls are especially keen on lemmings when they're available; the rodents' population is highly variable and crashes every few years. (Send this image as a postcard.)
