Return of the Lynx
JANUARY 2006

Caged for a Road Trip Photograph by Amy Toensing
A Canadian lynx waits behind wires for a ride from Quebec to a new home in southwestern Colorado. Through a reintroduction program begun in 1997, 204 lynx have been trapped in Canada and Alaska and released in Colorado, where the cats had not been spotted in the wild for a quarter of a century. "Lynx handle transport and captivity well," says Lisa Wolfe, a veterinarian with Colorado's Division of Wildlife. "They're remarkably calm animals."
