Russia's Bears
FEBRUARY 2006
|
At first look, the lives of the giant brown bears of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula could seem idyllic as they frolic in rivers and fish for salmon. But since the fall of the Soviet Union, trouble has been on their trail, reducing their numbers to almost half of the 20,000 that once roamed the wilderness. Among their problems: international trophy hunters in search of a prize and poaching of their food supply, salmon. Join them in their world and experience the wonder and tragedy of life for these magnificent animals.
