Dressed in a warm-up suit, a greyhound prepares for a dog race on a frozen lake outside St. Moritz, Switzerland—self-proclaimed birthplace of winter tourism in the Alps. Today St. Moritz is one of many year-round Alpine resorts that attract a wealthy, international crowd. In Switzerland alone, tourists spend some ten billion dollars a year.
