New Orleans: Hurricane Aftermath
AUGUST 2006
|
Buried Photograph by David Burnett
A car peeks out from a massive deposit of sand that poured from a breach in the London Avenue Canal and partially buried a neighborhood in northern New Orleans. Katrina caused water in Lake Pontchartrain to rise rapidly, bursting levees on three canals—the 17th Street, London Avenue, and Industrial Canals—and flooding most of the city.
