Reinhold, second from left, with his brothers, was five years old when, led by his father, he made his first summit to South Tirol in 1958. Repeatedly, vehemently, his father told him the life of a climber was impossible. "In the family, there was only one chance—to break, to be broken, or to be stronger than the father."
