It's a whole new solar system. Far-flung robotic missions and more powerful telescopes keep changing our perspective of the cosmic neighborhood. Here is the solar system in three scales, including the Oort cloud, never directly observed but thought to surround the system out to perhaps 19 trillion miles (31 trillion kilometers) from the sun. All these parts coalesced from material thrown off during the birth of our star 4.6 billion years ago. This art is a snapshot of where everything in orbit stood on December 1, 2006.
