A male clings like a rock climber to a heliconia flower in the Pacific lowlands of Colombia. The sicklebill is also adept at catching insects in midair. "They do it with amazing virtuosity," says Karl Schuchmann, an ornithologist at Germany's Alexander Koenig Zoological Research Institute and the Brehm Fund.
