Like a river of light and rock frozen in time, canyon walls lead into Coyote Buttes in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Known as the Wave, the spot is celebrated on the Internet and in an underground film; it has become a favorite stop for young Europeans visiting the Colorado Plateau. Only 40 people a day are allowed into the fragile area.
