Meera Singh enjoys mealtime with three of her grandchildren in a small home she owns. A resident of Dharavi since the 1970s, Singh brings in money by renting part of her 400-square-foot (37 square meters) house to eight men who work at a furniture factory. The value of the property has risen with the recent installation of a water tap, still a luxury in most of Dharavi.
