A Global Retreat
|
Ice is on the run in its mountain and polar strongholds. As the ice sheets on Greenland and Antarctica shrink in the next few centuries, seas could rise 20 feet (six meters). (Floating sea ice, also dwindling, does not affect sea level.) The shrinkage of mountain glaciers will dry up rivers and alter landscapes.
