Hats Off

The sight of his own headgear hurtling through the sky was “proof that convertibles and cowboy hats don’t mix,” says Vince Musi. He shot the flying hat while parked outside Seligman, Arizona, on one of the longest drivable stretches of old Route 66, the 2,400-mile (3,860-kilometer) slice of Americana he was assigned to cover. “In the old days, traveling through the heart of America at a snail’s pace, you could really connect to a place,” Vince says.
