Monkey Business
Photograph from Helton Archives/Getty Images, 1936

Nicotine wasn’t the only habit this chimpanzee, named Wednesday, picked up from humans. Wednesday and nine-month-old son, Andrew, also occasionally enjoyed a cup of tea at Scotland’s Edinburgh Zoo. The popular mother-and-son duo participated in daily tea parties—complete with tea cups and cakes—the zoo held for all of its chimps in the 1930s.
