Traveling in Style
Seizing a window of opportunity, a young gorilla tried to escape en route to the St. Louis Zoo. George P. Vierheller, the zoo director, sitting in the front passenger seat, had accompanied the gorilla and her male companion on their train trip from New York, during which the two newcomers had snubbed their baggage-car accommodations in favor of Vierhellers Pullman train car. The great ape escape was foiled by a locked door and a hefty leash.
