Most confrontations over prime salmon-fishing spots at Brooks Falls in Alaska’s Katmai National Park end after a quick exchange of body language. A stiff, ears-up posture means the male on the left is likely to win this test of dominance. Wounds on his head and neck are likely leftovers from fights for mating rights, something really worth spilling a little blood for.
