Where Everyone Walks

Where Everyone Walks

Lobsterman Bryan Hitchcock strides down Fish Beach Road with a portable drill and a tote full of gear to work on his boat, the 32-foot (10-meter) Lauren T. Hitchcock landed on the island in 1969, began lobstering a year later, and has been at it ever since. Monhegan’s lobster season begins in winter and runs from December to June, earning local lobstermen a certain respect among their peers on the mainland. “Since our season is short and we have to get the days in, I would guess that we see a bit more snarky weather than some of the others,” Hitchcock says.
