Air Travel

Air Travel
Photograph by Tim Laman

The locomotion of spectral tarsiers is powered by long hind legs that give the small primates a specialized style of vertical clinging and leaping as they travel through the rain forest. Although aided in their foraging by large eyes, they also rely on their acute hearing to capture and eat roaches, katydids, and other insects.

Camera: Canon EOS3
Film Type: Fujichrome Provia 100
Lens: Canon 28-135mm at approximately 70mm
Speed and F-Stop: 1/200 @ f/8
Weather Conditions: A dry evening in the forest
Time of Day: About one hour after dark
Lighting Techniques: I used one strobe on camera and a second slaved strobe aimed from the side.

Special Equipment or Comments:
Tarsiers are very quick little animals. Following them over many nights and learning their usual travel routes helped me get the shot.
