Frosty Spectators

Frosty Spectators
Photograph by Norbert Rosing

At the end of a four-hour snowmobile ride from Yellowknife to Blachford Lake in northern Canada, Garry and Kathryn Bibby-Fox and Fred Talen (left to right) join National Geographic magazine writer Kenny Taylor (foreground) in a resort hot tub to watch an aurora. Why the long trek to see something that looks equally beautiful in both places? “It’s like the difference between setting up a tent in your own backyard and actually going camping,” says Fred”s wife, Dana Britton. And where was Dana when this picture was taken? “There was a wicked wind. I was inside taking a hot shower to thaw out my head.”
