A chick too weak to break out of its shell was left to die at Fossil Rim’s breeding center. With so few Attwater’s remaining, it’s essential to keep the gene pool as strong as possible. Breeders even use a stud book to mate birds with the best chance of healthy, genetically diverse offspring.
