Walk in the Deep
Oceanographer Sylvia Earle gets a fish-eye view of Hawaii’s ocean floor as she
dons a high-tech diving suit for “a walk in the deep,” 1,250 feet (380 meters) down. A tether linked her to a research submarine above; a communications wire wrapped around the tether enabled her to talk with the sub’s crew.
