The Great Pyramids
Photo and caption by jesus oranday
The people of Ancient Egypt believed that death on Earth was the start of a journey to the next world. The embalmed body of the King was entombed underneath or within the pyramid to protect it and allow his transformation and ascension to the afterlife.

Pretty Maids All in a Row
Photo and caption by Deborah Brooks
The photo is of a cliff-side souvenir shop in the town of Fira on the island of Santorini, Greece. The juxtaposition of expressionless mannequins in resort wear against the dramatic backdrop of a cruise ship in the harbor gives the scene a surreal quality. The mannequins, in their vividly colored dresses blowing in the wind, seem poised to climb down from their perches and join the cruise.

During the frenzy previous days of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final won by Spain, I came across these "aficionado" players, who are enjoying a game in a stubborn field that found its place in the midst of the dense city of Barcelona.
Viewers' Choice Places Winner

This picture was taken when I visited the Buddhist Monastery of Ki. Ki is a tiny village in the middle of the Himalayas, and next to it is Ki Gompa (Ki Monastery). I lived with the monks for about a week, and this picture reflects the peaceful, almost heavenly atmosphere that characterizes this place. The Monastery is almost 4000 meters high, and I had to climb almost 500 meters more to get this panorama. This place is a touch of heaven.

The deepest diving pool in the world
Photo and caption by Michel Braunstein
Nemo33 is the deepest diving pool in the world. Its depth is 35 meters. It's situated in Brussels, Belgium.
It's quite impressive to look upwards from such a depth across serene and clear source water. It was really moving to observe the scene from the bottom through that wide cavity. There was no sunlight but instead the powerful glow of the electric light on the building's ceiling. What a splendid image!
