Super Moon Sets Over Pigeon Point Lighthouse
Photo and caption by Colleen Griffith
This moonset photo was captured the morning the moon was it's closest to the earth in the past 18 years, March 19 2010. The sun still had not risen, so, the light you see in the clouds and reflected on the ocean was from the incredibly bright full moon as it was setting over the Pacific Ocean. This location had virtually non-stop rain, with heavy storm cells, during the week prior to this shot, and the morning this was captured was no different. There was really only a brief few minutes when the moon peeked out from behind the storm clouds, adding some mystical moonlight to the ocean and sky.
