As a destination for young travelers and wanderers, San Cristobal is meshed with the long-standing traditions of its inhabitants and the busy, faceless vendors all shoving tourists with something to buy. As I left a restaurant, a man sitting in his van made deep direct eye contact with me before either of us said a word. This exchange was rare, considering that many of the locals (especially elders) would duck from cameras. This man was sweet, kind, and his soul poured from his beautiful blue eyes. He was more than happy to pose- a true gentle man.
