Sleeping Serey

Following a day at Kompong Phluk, a village built on stilts, our tuk-tuk driver Vibol asked if he could pick up his wife and two daughters on the way back to our hotel. We ended up in a village that had been ravished by land mines, and had never hosted North Americans. We became the guests of honour. We were offered a coconut for drinking, a bowl of rice, and some fish the children caught in the backyard pond. Following dinner, Vibol put his beautiful daughter Serey to bed in a cloth hammock. She fell asleep instantly, even though children, bugs and a pack of wild puppies surrounded her.
