Hot air over Göreme

While staying in Göreme, Turkey for a few nights, we decided to wake up early to watch the sun peak over the "fairy chimney" rock formations. It wasn’t just any sunrise – we had met a hefty Irish lad in Istanbul who described the scene to us: A valley full of hot air balloons being lit up and crammed full of tourists before take off. However, 5 a.m. always sounds like a good idea the night before. Yet, we jumped out of bed and ran through the dark with no sense of direction, looking for a good view-point. We ended up alone on a beautiful perch, with the most picturesque view in town.
