Sand Mining
Category: Nature
Photo and caption by Rishad Puthenveettil
I shot this during my fly in a helicopter from Gangtok (Sikkim) to Bagdogra (West Bengal). During my fly I saw Teesta River flowing down from the Himalaya with full of water. When it reaches the valley at Bagdogra the water drains and the river becomes dry as seen in the photograph. This phenomenon is due to the heavy sand mining in the river which is very clear in the picture.
Location: Outskirts of Bagdogra, West Bengal, India
