Nepali Versus a Western Life

On a recent trip kayaking in Nepal I was amazed at the interest we got from the locals. People will yell out 'Namaste' or wave from bridges but these young boys as well as about 20 other locals followed us along the river right bank as long as they could to witness us going down the powerful rapids the Tamur had to offer. Trips on this river occur only a few times each year. About 20 porters were required to carry in equipment. 4 days of portering work earns a Nepali half a months wages. Some did it purely for the sheer enjoyment and thrill of being involved in the rare experience.

Location: Tamur River, Nepal
