Lake Eyre Moonrise
Category: Nature
Photo and caption by Peter Carroll
Lake Eyre,is a vast salt lake surrounded by deserts in Central Australia and with an average height of 15m below sea level is Australias lowest point. Despite having a catchment of 1/6th of Australia, it fills just a few times a century. 2009/10/11 is one of those times. It creates an incredible spectacle as thousands upon thousands of sea birds, including Pelicans instinctively fly thousands of km to this inland sea to feast on fish and breed. This Moonrise at sunset is therefore a rare event to be captured as a reflection at lake Eyre.
Location: Lake Eyre, Central Australia- Nearest town is Maree, South Australia
