In 2010/2011, Central Australia received drought-breaking rains. The desert literally flooded. The Great Red Dunes of the Simpson Desert were covered in growth. Between the Parallel dunes are lakes making journeys across the popular adventure routes impossible. The desert hasn't seen conditions like this for twenty years. It has resulted in unprecedented increases in bird and wildlife populations including a mouse plague.
Location: Western Simpson Desert near Andado Station
