Rosalia longicorn waiting for partner

My father considers Rosalia longicorn (Rosalia alpina) the most beautiful beetle in the world. When he discovered them in Czech part of White Carpathians, his 40 years long dream came true. This summer I had the very first opportunity to see rosalia longicorn for myself and take this photo. The male was waiting for many days for females on a pile of beech logs and I came there several times to observe him from the distance. Sometimes he hid in between the logs, where only his dark silhouette was visible in the contrast of sunlit green leaves of ferns in the background.
Location: White Carpathians, Czech Republic
