The "silah" is the community leader of the Kuna indigenous people. The silah of this particular Kuna community of Nusatupu is well over 80 years old (although he would not specify) and nearly half of the island's 400 inhabitants is directly or indirectly related to him through 4 generations. He wears a necklace of alligator teeth and plays the harmonica when he is in a jolly mood.
