- Salome Ramos is 64 years old and lives in Quibdo, a town with a 95 percent Black population derived from African slaves imported to Pacific coast of Colombia by the conquistadors. She is presently out of work, but her previous Jobs include everything from maid to miner. The economics of Quibdo are almost entirely supported by the wages of mining or fishing and the towns atmosphere has a raw vibrance, I felt like an alien as everyone stared at me- in a curious rather than un-welcoming way.

- I like to photograph myself or create a new identity. There is a difference between that which is an affected pose, versus an honest portrayal. I straddle the line and have reservations about each as I consider my personal self and public self. Keeping these ‘records’ of fictcious memories, these various identities can be seen as representing ideas of responsibility, sexuality, vulnerability, honesty, and femininity. Fragmenting the body, body language and specific environments influence the way the photographs are read and interpreted.

- Wearing a huge feathered hat, the singer Carlinhos Brown leads a procession toward Place de la Madeleine in Paris. They came from the state of Bahia, northeast Brazil to celebrate an ecumenical ritual of "the washing of the Madeleine". Mixing secular and Afro-Brazilian Candomblé beliefs, the ceremony dates back to the end of the 18th-century. Every year in Bahia pilgrims wash the steps of the church Senhor do Bonfim as a symbol of peace and purification. Armed with brooms, Carlinhos Brown and Bahianese women gently spread out flavored water on the steps of the austere Church of the Madeleine.
