A Fun-filled Box

During our stay in a small village in Togo, we were hosted by a wonderful, loving family. So, we thanked them by throwing a party complete with a pinata!! At first, they were confused as I tried to explain its purpose in broken French. Then I gave the stick to the youngest (as is customary). I think he understood me best and went to town trying to bring the box down. After a few hits, the candy fell to the floor, and everyone stared at it in silence. They looked up for acknowledgement and then the jovial chaos began.
