Situated at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kinderdijk contains a system of 19 old windmills. They were built around 1740 to help maintain the water level in the canals designed to prevent flooding of the surrounding farmland.
Location: Kinderdijk. The Netherlands.
