Matterhorn of the Rockies

Mt. Assiniboine can be seen here soaring into the sky at 11,870 ft high with Lake Magog at the foot of this majestic mountain. Named by George M. Dawson, the cloud trailing away from the peak reminded him of the plumes of smoke emanating from the teepees of the Assiniboine Indians that would travel through this region every year living a nomadic lifestyle. A short 10 minute helicopter flight gives the easiest location but the 22km hike starting in Banff National Park, is far more enjoyable.
Location: Mt. Assiniboine, Assiniboine Provicial Park, British Columbia, Canada
