Near Nagano, Japan lies Yudanaka Onsen, which is famous due to the fact that in winter, the Japanese macaques come down from the mountain forests to warm up in the volcanic hot springs. Most of the monkeys are rather blasé about the human spectators and tend to ignore them, but this one looked straight at me with what I felt to be a piercing stare.
