Spring Pond Thaw

This photograph of a pond to the south of our home was shot last spring on a cloudy morning between a couple 33 degree temperature rain showers. The circular patterns in the ice had been developing for a couple days and were created by warm water below the ice. The glossy surface was the result of morning rain that had not turned solid yet. I was able to get above the water by standing on the end of our dock and within a few minutes rain began again and the reflections were gone.
