Skyfire-Dance of giants

On September 11 2012 a host of extraordinary chances came together to allow this permanent witness to a staggering natural event. A 30 metre high tornado hit a burning patch of resin-filled spinifex grass (Triodia)in the Australian desert, creating a spectacular vortex of fire. The owners of the cattle station on whose land stands the nearby Mt. Conner, had been protecting the mighty mesa from burning for over 50 years. Science will eventually tell us whether this build-up of highly flammable resin contributed to the event created on that day, perhaps purely from a super-heated grass fire.
