Very rare phenomenon of Vapor Cone, visible in specific conditions when plane travels with transonic speed. Vapor Cone is caused by low pressure in an expansion region of the airflow behind the aircraft. Common misconception is that this effect shows when aircraft is breaking the sound barrier. On this particular picture Vapor Cone is visible on F-18 Super Hornet which is part of US NAVY VFA-106 Gladiators
