This photo was taken on the morning of September 22, 2012, the first day of fall, in Seattle, Washington. The spider was protecting her orb web from the rain and wind as she had rebuilt her web several times in the weeks preceding the morning this photo was taken. Her persistence in battling the elements was and still is admirable.
