Starving for Attention
Category: Nature

We were the first on scene as a pride of lions began to feast on a wildebeest they had killed earlier. This allowed us to experience the customs and etiquette of feeding lions. Since the males and older females eat first, the particular lioness in the photo was not allowed to eat yet, so she worked hard at getting the attention of the other lions by laying across the backs of those eating and trying to squeeze her way in to the feast. Once these tactics failed she decided to garner our attention by rolling around on the ground. In the photo I catch her staring right at me as she rolled around.
