The Venus Flytrap, or Dionaea Muscipula is a Carnivorous Plant that most all of us know and find very curious. These plants are not from some far-off land, but grow around the Wilmington, North Carolina area! They are extremely threatened in the wild due to land-encroachment and habitat alteration from development, poaching by locals out to make some easy money and by fire-suppression, because these plants are adapted to clearings which are slowly being overgrown. Without proper conservation, these marvels of the plant world will surely vanish!

Location: Nature Conservancy land near Wilmington, NC, USA. Visited with permission.
