Sarracenia Flava Field

Category: Nature

Photo and caption by matt kaelin

A row of Sarracenia Flava Carnivorous Plants in a field. These plants are not from some far-off land, but grow around the Wilmington, North Carolina area! They are extremely threatened in the wild due to land-encroachment and habitat alteration from development, poaching by locals out to make some easy money and by fire-suppression, because these plants are adapted to clearings which are slowly being overgrown. Without proper conservation, these marvels of the plant world will surely vanish! Taken August, 2012 (the cameras settings are off a year)

Location: Nature Conservancy land near Wilmington, NC, USA. Visited with permission.
