This female Kemps ridley, nicknamed "Missy", had nested earlier in the day on Galveston's West End. This is a big deal, as the Kemps is a critically endangered species, with a population that has just begun to nest on the Texas Gulf Coast in any numbers. The eggs are collected and moved to Padre Island National Seashore, while the females are satellite tagged and re-released into the Gulf for study of their movements. Missy paused several times in her crawl back to the water, but this was her last breather before heading back into the Gulf.
Location: Galveston, Texas (West End)
