Northern Muriqui

The northern muriqui (Brachyteles hypoxanthus) is one of the world’s most critically endangered primates. It is found in the Atlantic Forest region of the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais and Bahia. Photo taken at the private reserve Feliciano Miguel Abdala. In this reserve lives the largest population of northern muriquis, estimated 300 dived in 4 groups. I had the privilege to join researchers and to photograph and observe one group on a close distance. It was stunning!
Location: state of Minas Gerais, Brazil
