Dingo-Hybrid

The Dingo ancestor was likely brought from Indonesia to Australia 4000-5000 years ago. Genetically pure Australian Dingoes are now a minority in Australian wild dog populations due to interbreeding with domesticated dogs. I took this photo while working with the Geological Survey in Western Australia. Farmers I spoke to from near by Stations expressed concern over the potential effects of genes from more aggressive breeds combined with the increased size these Dingo-Hybrids often posses. There is debate over whether the Dingo-Hybrids are more prone to attacks on livestock or humans.
