Beauty of the Whale (bubble net feeding)
Category: Nature
Photo and caption by Vladislav Frumkin
This picture symbolizes the natural beauty of Humpback whales. This photo is a fine example of “bubble net feeding”- a feeding technique unique to Humpback whales. In this picture the whale’s mouth is open, savouring the taste of the many krill it has just devoured. The seagulls are soaring above the whale, trying to snatch up the remaining krill. The whale has placed its pectoral fins on either side of the image. To capture the true spirit of Alaska, this picture was taken through rain and wind. The rocky background reflects the toughness and willingness to survive behind every day at Alaska.
