A hummingbird's heart beats up to 1,260 times per minute and when at rest it is about 250 beats per minute. Their metabolism is about a hundred times that of an elephant. They have very weak feet and can barely walk. They can weigh anywhere from 2 to 20 grams. ( A penny weighs 2.5 grams.) Thirty percent of their body weight is flight muscles. On average, they have about 940 feathers. Their wings beat about 70 times per second and 200 per second when diving! They are the only bird that can fly forward and backwards. They can fly 25-30 miles per hour and can dive at 60 miles per hour!
